Summertime at the Academy
Though the school year has come to an end for the boys and girls of Mercy Home, our summer programs are just heating up. Meant to inspire their imaginations, touch their hearts, and strengthen their skills both inside and outside of the classroom, our Academy's new summer curriculum offers a wide range of subjects from comprehensive tutoring to an exploration of the arts.
At Mercy Home, we understand that the most essential piece to our children's futures is the access to a good education. Getting our boys and girls interested and involved in their schoolwork is the first step in our Academy's education efforts. So many of our kids come to our door three or four years behind their peers academically--and it is our responsibility to help our youngsters find an interest in their studies and subsequently work towards their dreams.
Translated into practice, this means giving our kids all the resources, tools, and support necessary to excel within the classroom. Truly, it is our duty to awaken a love of learning in our children--and our summer programs aim to do just that. So, as the weather warms and our children relax from their final exams, they're also gearing up for a summer full of learning.
Teachers from neighboring Chicago Public Schools have graciously devoted their time for an hour each day Monday through Thursday to lead both reading and math classes here at our Home. Over the next three months, with this extra support and guidance, our boys and girls will work diligently to gain confidence in their skills and raise their scores in these subjects.
But just as important as building a strong foundation in these core classes, is garnering an appreciation for the arts and finding beauty in the diversity surrounding us. Through Urban Gateways and Music Alive, our boys and girls will spend their summer months engaged in drum roll, hip-hop dancing, and art classes.
At Mercy Home, we're a family in the truest sense of the word-and we wish nothing more than to see our children follow their dreams and find success. We are truly honored and humbled by the good friends of our Home who care enough to share in our mission. So, as our summer of learning begins, our Mercy Home family prays you will remember that we are truly blessed to have such good friends helping to deliver these important lessons to our kids.
