Brian's Story

“…And every night, Brian tried to protect his brother from the beatings…but Brian was just too small.”

Brian never had a real home.  He came to us dirty and disheveled, dressed in shabby clothes.  His eyes darted from side-to-side, not knowing what to expect, but hoping, somehow, that this wasn’t just another stop—not like the half-dozen foster homes he’d already known.

Brian’s been through so much pain in his young life.  His mother sold drugs and worked as a prostitute from their apartment—and he and his brother Joey watched as addicts and criminals walked in and out of their living room every day.

When their mother was arrested for drug dealing and prostitution, the boys were sent to live with their grandmother. But that life, too, was a nightmare—they were neglected, often for days on end, rarely fed, and horribly abused.

And every night, Brian tried to protect his brother from the beatings…but Brian was just too small.

But thanks to the kindness of a school counselor, social services intervened.  Brian’s brother was placed in a home that cared for him, and Brian—after being shuffled through several foster homes—came to Mercy Home to live.

Friends like you are the reason Brian is alive today.  Your compassion gives him something he never had in his life—something he always wished for as he cowered with his brother in their room, or foraged for food on the streets.

And now this young boy who once spent his nights locked in a basement with no food or water has a new outlook on life.  He plays soccer in school, excels at math, and dreams of being a lawyer one day.

But for every child like Brian, thousands more wander the streets in search of food or cry themselves to sleep at night after another night of unspeakable abuse.

And these kids need friends like you.

You see, Brian’s admirable dreams and his hopes for the future wouldn’t be possible without your support.  You are the reason the abused and abandoned kids who come to Mercy Home now look to the future with excitement—you are the reason they’ve turned their lives around.

Thank you again for being a friend to the children of Mercy Home.  Please know that all our hurting kids—like Brian—owe their second chances to loyal friends like you.

And please remember you always have a place in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers.
