MERCY HOME FOR BOYS & GIRLS AWARDED $90,000
FROM BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF ILLINOIS TO SUPPORT KIDS’ HEALTH

Mercy Home for Boys & Girls announced that it has been recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois for its success in supporting access to health care for young people and has been awarded a grant to continue its important efforts. This is the eighth straight year that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois has awarded the grant to Mercy Home. “We are proud to support Mercy Home for Boys & Girls,” said Clarita Santos, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois director of community health initiatives.  “Our mission is to promote the health and wellness of our members and our communities through accessible, cost-effective, quality health care. By supporting organizations like Mercy Home, we are able to reach out to the people most in need.”

Many of the young people who come to live at Mercy Home arrive without adequate health care. These young people often come from poverty-stricken backgrounds and need good mental and physical health in order to tackle their emotional and educational issues.  Thanks to the medical, dental and psychological care that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is helping Mercy Home provide, these children will be able to leave residential care physically healthy, mentally stable and ready to contribute to the communities in which they live.

“We are enormously grateful to Blue Cross Blue and Shield of Illinois for its outstanding, continued support of Mercy Home,” said Rev. L. Scott Donahue, president and CEO of Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. “By advancing the care of our children’s health and well-being, this gift will reap rewards for the community at large, far into the future.”

Mercy Home is one of 170 organizations to receive a grant in 2010 from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, which focuses its giving in the areas of health and wellness and human services.
