Rewarded for their hard work and good behavior, eight of our young men and women traveled to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri last week for the summer Leadership All Stars trip.

Leadership All Stars is a program designed to give our kids incentives to work hard in school and at building their futures while living at Mercy Home.  Youth receive weekly scores in a variety of categories, such as room cleanliness, peer and staff relationships, progress towards their goals, efforts in learning, gaining and/or maintaining a job, and school, and their participation at the Home.  Youth can receive bonus points for completing community service hours and going above and beyond by role modeling and showing leadership.

Last week, eight of the top scoring youth piled into vans for the 10 hour road trip to Lake of the Ozarks, located just over 60 miles southwest of Missouri’s state capital, Jefferson City.

While on the trip, the youth visited Big Surf water park, participated in community service at the Camdenton Fire House where they helped change fire hoses and clean the station, attended a Sedalia Bombers minor league baseball game where they were invited onto the field, and enjoyed their time on the lake boating, fishing and swimming.

“The kids had an incredible week exploring central Missouri,” said Joe Wronka, Mercy Home co-worker and trip chaperone.  “They enjoyed the opportunity to be out of the city and relax in beautiful natural surroundings.”

Congratulations to all of the summer Leadership All Stars trip winners: Jessica, Lindsey, Fernando, Abdisamad, Sam, Anthony, Zakarie and Mohamed.
