Mercy Home’s Soccer Building was full of high hopes and great questions on Tuesday night as some of our young men and women participated in the annual College Fair.
The evening began with a panel discussion with representatives of some of the colleges and universities. Anne Johnson, facilitator and College Prep Coordinator at Mercy Home, asked a few general questions surrounding college life that were on the minds of many of our youth.
After the panel discussion, youth were invited to visit each school’s table to learn about subjects ranging from what programs are offered, to where the best dinning halls are.
“It was a great opportunity for our young men and women to have individual time to speak to each college,” said Johnson. “All the representatives were highly impressed with our youths’ ability to network and ask meaningful questions.”
Mercy Home believes it is important to get our kids interested in higher education at an early age. Through our Dream, Believe, Achieve! program, our young men and women are exposed to college and university choices throughout their time at Mercy Home. Our elementary aged youth participated in an overnight visit at Elmhurst University, while our high school aged youth attended college fairs and nights, discussions, and Mercy Home’s annual summer College Tour, which takes youth to several universities throughout the Midwest. They are also encouraged to participate in overnights at colleges they are interested in throughout the year.
A special thanks to Anne Johnson, who helped make this event a success. Also thanks to the 16 different colleges and universities that came out to aid our young people in making a decision about the next step of their lives.
