Tutoring FAQ's


Q:  What is the time commitment for a tutor?
A:  Tutoring takes place for one hour a week on Monday through Thursday evenings.  We will assign you to an evening that fits your schedule.

Q: Who will I be tutoring?
A:  The youth at Mercy Home are Junior High and High School age.  We will match you with a child whose age and academic level are appropriate for your skills and comfort level.  Our youth come from difficult backgrounds but have made the decision to improve their life through Mercy Home.

Q: What if I don’t remember math?
A:  On the application you will mark the subjects that you feel comfortable with.  We will match your skills to the needs of our youth.  We have tutors who cover a variety of subjects, so don’t worry if you’re not an expert!

Q: Can I start in the middle of the school year?
A:  Yes.  As Mercy Home grows, so does the need for tutors!

Q: What if I have a vacation planned and have to miss a tutoring session?
A:  If you must miss a session, please let our staff know as soon as possible.  However, please try to attend all tutoring sessions if possible.  Besides the academic benefits, the youth bond with their tutors and look forward to their time together.
