“A lot of folks talk about the state of the world today but never take the time out to change the problems. Mercy Home has shown me I can, one step at a time.”
- Traci, Mercy Home tutor
One hour a week can make a lifetime of difference.
It may not seem like much – but just 60 minutes with volunteer tutors can help Mercy Home’s young people catch up in school, build their confidence and fulfill their academic potential.
An integral part of our volunteering program, tutors spend an hour each week with our kids during the school year, helping them with homework and encouraging positive academic habits.
For our young people, simply having someone who listens and cares whether they do their homework can make all the difference in the world.
Those interested in our Chicago tutoring opportunities should:
- Feel comfortable directing a child to stay on task.
- Be knowledgeable in multiple academic subjects.
- Commit to completing projects with youth within a prescribed amount of time.
- Be at ease working with at-risk young people.
Read about how one tutor has made a difference in the lives of Mercy Home’s children. We also encourage you to read and share our online brochure on our tutoring program.
Tutoring takes place in Chicago on our Girls Campus at 11600 S. Longwood Drive and at our Hay Boys Campus at 1140 W. Jackson Boulevard in the West Loop neighborhood.
We are currently accepting tutor applications, so start now to make a difference in the life of a child. For more information on becoming a tutor, please submit a form, email or call (312) 738-7552.
