Every year on June 15th, people from all over the world participate in Worldwide Day of Giving by performing the simplest of kind acts. The tradition began back in 2010 as part of the founding year of Reed’s Year of Giving. Reed’s mission was simple: he gave away $10 to a different person ever day for a year in honor of his mother and wrote about his experiences. What Reed gained from his year of giving was invaluable: the power of paying it forward.
While a few dollars may not seem like much for one person, Reed (and many others) learned that the act of paying it forward can quickly inspire others to do the same, which ends up making a big difference in the world. For example, if someone surprised you with $10, what are the chances that you would want to do something kind for a stranger in turn? Pretty high!
So, in honor of this very special day, we at Mercy Home want to inspire you to pay it forward by helping Chicago children in need. Below you will find five easy ways to participate in Worldwide Day of Giving. We encourage you to share your experiences with us in the comment section so you can motivate others to do the same!
