Are you familiar with the saying “actions speak louder than words?” Perhaps you heard it from a parent or teacher growing up. Maybe you still think about it today, because it is a very true statement! Our words are only as good as our ability to follow up on our promises. It is what we do, not what we say, that defines the kind of people we are.
There is a favorite quote of mine that says, “preach the Gospel…use words if necessary.”
While of course we must use our words to share the Gospel with others, equally important are our actions. Each day is an opportunity for us to preach the Gospel through our words, thoughts, and actions. In our attitudes and in how we treat one another, we can share our spirit of faith and bring God’s love and compassion to the people we interact with every day. We do this knowing that, without actions to back them up, our words are meaningless.
As another year begins, I encourage you to keep this beautiful sentiment in your heart as you go through life each day. In this time of uncertainty, it is more important than ever to bring God’s love into a world that is in such desperate need of love and understanding. No matter what is happening around us, we are called to spread the light of the Gospel to all.
May God bless you and your loved ones richly in 2021. Happy New Year!
