Annual Golf Outing is Fundraiser Par Excellence

Mercy Home welcomed 124 golfers to its sold-out annual Mercy Home Golf Classic held in August at the historic Beverly Country Club.

Foursomes enjoyed a sunny day of golf, as well as fun side games on the course, including an opportunity to challenge our own Fr. Scott Donahue’s blackjack skills, a long-drive contest, and “pick-your-pin” contest, among others.

Congratulations as well to all of our game winners and raffle winners, and thank you to our raffle prize donors!

Following a full day on the course, guests gathered for a delicious dinner and award ceremony, where they were welcomed by Jim Marrese, director of business development & strategic initiatives at Mercy Home who then introduced Fr. Scott.

Fr. Scott thanked our guests for coming and supporting Mercy Home’s work with children and families, “a mission we all share,” he said. “Thank you for believing in this mission, believing in our young people, and for the encouragement you give to our coworkers.”

After recounting the ways our young people give back to the community throughout the year, he told guests how his favorite passage from scripture concerns that which is given as a gift should be given to others as a gift. “That is the gift we receive from all of you,” Fr. Scott said.

Fr. Scott then welcomed the family of the late Board of Regents member Jim Corrigan before presenting the winners of a trophy named in Corrigan’s memory to the top scoring foursome. The trophy recognizes Corrigan’s longtime support of our Home through the Stack Family Foundation and his legacy of giving to our youth.

“The one word that comes to mind to describe Jim was steadfast,” said Fr. Scott, who also noted how much Corrigan loved the golf outing. “He was steadfast and he was thoughtful, and it’s our honor to recognize him [through the trophy]”

Jim Marrese then welcomed the winning foursome from Team AArete, (Don Maag, Evan Ling, Mike Faraone, and Mike Cavanaugh).

Raffle winners were also chosen, and attendees had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for this year’s third annual Lux Gala, our signature event.

We are so grateful to our board members, who played a key role in making this event another tremendous success. A special thank you to Board of Directors member Bob Carmody, who brought eight foursomes out for the day.

Thank you also to our friends at James & Sons, led by Ambassadors of Mercy board member Jim Sunderland and his brother John, for sponsoring the hole-in-one contest with the much-coveted prize of a Rolex watch. And a big thank you to all our coworkers who made this event possible, particularly our special events team and Jim Marrese. We are already looking forward to seeing everyone on the links again next year!
