The Chicago Archdiocese Chapter of the Knights of Columbus honored Fr. Scott at its inaugural charity banquet in Schiller Park, Illinois.
Chicago Chapter President Jeff Griggs said that the choice of Fr. Scott as the event’s first-ever honoree was unanimous. “I have been blessed to know Fr. Scott for the better part of 20 years now,” Griggs stated in a letter about the award. “And his dedication and leadership of the Mission of Our Lady of Mercy remains as inspirational as ever.”
The award included a generous $10,000 donation to Mercy Home, which was presented by Griggs and Dan Davis, Chicago Archdiocesan Chairman. In his address to attendees, Davis recognized Mercy Home’s good work and affirmed the Knights of Columbus’ commitment throughout the year in fulfilling their commitment to charity, unity, and service.
The Knights of Columbus is a global Catholic fraternal service organization. Its councils provide members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, the community, families, and young people. Its councils have supported Mercy Home in numerous ways over the years, particularly during our March for Kids campaign, when members collect donations at Chicago-area parishes. Griggs has spearheaded the organization’s charitable effort for Mercy Home for more than 20 years, generating upwards of $300,000 in support for our mission.
“Their generosity is a beacon of hope for young people who have endured hardship and are searching for healing and opportunity,” said Fr. Scott. I am deeply grateful to the Knights for their commitment and the example they set of faith in action.”
Mercy Home Director Business Development & Strategic Initiatives Jim Marrese, who attended the event with Fr. Scott, acknowledged the group’s long-standing support of March for Kids. “Numerous councils of the Knights of Columbus have been critical to the success of this annual fundraising and awareness raising campaign,” Marrese said. “We’re deeply grateful that they’ve pledged to recommit their efforts to collect donations at parishes throughout Chicago again this year.”
Mercy Home COO Joe Wronka attended along with former Mercy Home resident, current Ambassador of Mercy, and Knights of Columbus member Pat Zamkin. Numerous councils of the Knights of Columbus also gathered from around the Chicago area for the event.
