Mercy Home recently received a visit from dear friends when members of the Speh family, representing the Speh Foundation, stopped by to celebrate 20 years of service to our boys and girls.
On June 17, Speh family members of all ages came to the West Loop Campus to take group photos with Fr. Scott in front of the old oak door, enjoy lunch, and meet some past residents of Mercy Home who have benefited from their support. Among those on hand were former Speh Scholars John S. and Josh P., who reflected on the ways that Mercy Home and the Speh family’s support impacted their lives. John is on the way to becoming a CPA while Josh works for a brokerage firm in downtown Chicago.
Fr. Scott and Joe Wronka addressed the family, thanking them for their longtime friendship and presenting the family with a guardian angel statue.
The Spehs also had something very special to present—a donation of $100,000 to Mercy Home, which will continue their tradition of generous support of our AfterCare Supportive Housing program, our Friends First mentoring program, our in-house academic program, Education & Career Resources, and our Speh Fitness Center at the Walsh Campus. Additionally, they presented gift cards to Barnes and Noble so that our kids will have the chance to pick out some summer reading.
The visit concluded with a tour of the campus, including Speh Home, where the family discovered one of the residents had baked them banana bread.
