White Sox go to Bat for Chicago Charities

Thanks to Chicago White Sox Charities, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, and Peoples Gas for honoring their charity partners, including Mercy Home for Boys & Girls at the ballpark during their annual Grantee Day at Rate Field.

The event was held as part of Sox Serve Week, an annual celebration that unites current and former White Sox players, front office staff and fan volunteers through outreach events and fundraising efforts. The week-long community engagement and fundraising campaign benefits Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) and helps support children and families most in need.

Representatives from 46 area nonprofits were invited to a reception and ceremony presented by Peoples Gas to honor the impactful work of each grantee.

We are deeply grateful to Chicago White Sox Charities for supporting Mercy Home’s Education and Career Resources program through this most recent grant award, and for all the ways they support our young people.

Special thanks to Christine O’Reilly-Riordan, Vice President of Community Relations/Executive Director of Chicago White Sox Charities and team members Alexandra Doman, Community Relations Coordinator and Megan Biasotti, Director of Community/Player Relations along with Timothy Knight, President & CEO of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and team members Sonia Mathew, Director of Partnerships and Ava Schneider, Grants Manager.

While Mercy Home has received grant support from Chicago White Sox Charities for nearly 30 years, our partnership with the team dates as far back to the team’s earliest days, when team founder Charles Comiskey raised funds to erect our first permanent structure  through a series of exhibition baseball games in the early 1900s.

In recent decades, the team has hosted our young people at the park to enjoy the big-league atmosphere and interact with players and White Sox staff. Earlier this spring, for example, our young women were treated to an on-the-field experience with players and with Chicago Sports Network field reporter Brooke Fletcher, who made history recently, becoming the White Sox’ first female dedicated TV analyst.
