Today is World Kindness Day, a day reserved for deliberate acts of kindness. No need for grand gestures, this day is all about committing small, but mighty acts of kindness. Hold a door for someone, compliment a stranger, or donate clothing to a local charity. These drops of kindness radiate goodness and can restore a sense of humanity in the world.
World Kindness Day began in 1998, after a collection of international organizations met the previous year to form the World Kindness Movement. The group of like-minded nonprofit organizations created a written declaration, pledging “to join together to build a kinder and more compassionate world.”
World Kindness Day, as outlined by the World Kindness Movement, aims to highlight good deeds in communities across the world by focusing on the positive power and common thread of kindness, which binds us all.
As kindness becomes part of your daily routine, be sure to participate in Giving Tuesday on November 30th. #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many people focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Unlike consumer-centric shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a day to give back.
Consider giving back to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls this #GivingTuesday. It’s a perfect day to help a child in need!
