∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! ∫
We gather at the end of the Liturgical Year
Around the Table of the Lord
To celebrate this wonderful feast day of Christ the King.
And we offer our prayer in the Name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit.
-Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the communion of the Holy Spirit,
Be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
My friends, as we gather we simply pause for a moment.
We acknowledge our faults and failings.
We graciously receive the Lord’s loving forgiveness.
Lord Jesus, we believe that You are the Way
That leads us to the Father.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, we believe that You are Truth
And that Your Truth reveals God’s love for us.
Christ, have mercy.
-Christ, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, we believe that You are Life.
That through Your Life, Death, and Resurrection,
You have promised us New Life in You.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
May Almighty God have mercy on us,
Forgive us of our sin,
And bring us to Life Everlasting.
-Amen.

∫ Glory to God in the highest, ∫
∫ And on earth peace to people of goodwill. ∫
∫ Glory to God in the highest, ∫
∫ And on earth peace to people of goodwill. ∫
My friends, let us pray.
Almighty ever-living God, whose will is to restore
All things in Your beloved Son, the King of the Universe,
Grant, we pray, that the whole creation,
Set free from slavery, may render Your Majesty service
And ceaselessly proclaim Your praise.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
Who lives and reigns with You
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God forever and ever.
-Amen.
A reading from the Second Book of Samuel.
In those days, all the tribes of Israel
Came to David in Hebron and said,
“Here we are, your bone and your flesh.
In days past, when Saul was our king,
It was you who led the Israelites out
And brought them back.
And the Lord said to you,
‘You shall shepherd My people Israel
And shall be commander of Israel.’”
When all the elders of Israel came to David in Hebron,
King David made an agreement with them there before the Lord,
And they anointed him king of Israel.
The Word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.

∫ Let us go rejoicing to the house, ∫
∫ To the house of the Lord. ∫
∫ Let us go rejoicing to the house, ∫
∫ To the house of the Lord. ∫
∫ I rejoiced when they said to me, ∫
∫ Let us go to the house of the Lord. ∫
∫ And now our feet are standing within your gates, ∫
∫ O Jerusalem. ∫
∫ Let us go rejoicing to the house, ∫
∫ To the house of the Lord. ∫
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Colossians.
Brothers and sisters, let us give thanks
To the Father who has made you fit to share in the inheritance
Of the Holy Ones in light.
He delivered us from the power of darkness
And transferred us to the Kingdom of His beloved Son,
In whom we have Redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
He is the Image of the invisible God,
The Firstborn of all Creation.
For in Him were created all things in Heaven
And on Earth,
The visible and the invisible,
Whether Thrones or Dominions or Principalities or Powers;
All things were created through Him and for Him.
He is before all things,
And in Him all things hold together.
He is the Head of the Body, the Church.
He is the Beginning,
The Firstborn from the dead,
That in all things He Himself may be preeminent.
For in Him all the fullness was pleased to dwell,
And through Him to reconcile all things for Him,
Making peace by the Blood of His Cross,
Through Him, whether those on Earth
Or those in Heaven.
The Word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
∫ Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord! ∫
∫ Blessed is the Kingdom ∫
∫ Of our Father David that is to come! ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
The Lord be with each of you.
-And with your Spirit.
Ours is a reading taken from the Holy Gospel
According to St. Luke.
-Glory to You, O Lord.
The rulers sneered at Jesus and said,
“He saved others. Let Him save Himself
If He is the Chosen One, the Christ of God.”
Even the soldiers jeered at Him.
As they approached to offer Him wine, they called out,
“If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”
Above Him there was an inscription that read,
“This is the King of the Jews.”
Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying,
“Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us.”
The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,
“Have you no fear of God?
For you are subject to the same condemnation.
And indeed we have been condemned justly,
For the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes.
But this Man has done nothing criminal.”
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me
When You come into Your Kingdom.”
Jesus replied to him,
“Amen, I say to you,
Today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
-Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
It is a refrain that we hear every Good Friday.
And as we come to the end of this Liturgical Year,
As we begin a new Liturgical Year
With the First Sunday of Advent next week,
I’m going to invite you to behold
The Wood of the Cross.
Behold the Wood of the Cross—
On which hangs the Savior of the world.
Christ the King, crucified.
There’s a parish on the south side of the city
In the Beverly community.
And the name of the parish is Christ the King.
And the way in which the architect and the artist
Designed the church was brilliant from my perspective.
As you walk up the main aisle
Of Christ the King Church in Beverly,
There over the main altar,
You see Christ seated on a throne,
Surrounded by Saints and by Angels.
Christ the King in all His majesty.
And so you process and you look, the parishioners,
All are looking at Christ the King.
And then, as the presider or the priest turns around
And faces the back wall of the church,
You see Christ our King, crucified,
Dying on a Cross out of love for us.
Christ our King—and Christ our King.
And in between those two powerful images
Is where we sit and where we pray
And where we celebrate Eucharist
And where we give thanks to God
For the gift of Christ our King.
The feast was promulgated by Pope Pius XI in 1925.
It was a time when the world was still in chaos
And reeling from World War I.
The leaders, the sovereigns of the world, all claiming
To have power and authority.
And their power and authority led the world
Into death and destruction, into utter chaos.
And it was Pius XI who wanted to remind
All the people of the world that our Creator,
The Creator of all things, is Christ our King.
That He is the sovereign King of all the universe.
That this King rules in peace and in love
And in justice and in compassion.
The Kingship of Christ.
It’s powerful to think about Christ our King,
Who showed us in His life here on Earth
How life can best be lived.
He did so by preaching the Gospel, the Good News.
He preached by example.
He preached by the compassion that He showed to others.
Where is power really residing in the world?
It resides in those who love.
It resides in those who care for
It resides in the disciples,
We who are the disciples of the Lord Jesus.
He taught us how life can best be lived.
And this King, this King of the Universe,
This Christ our King,
Showed us that in and through death
We can experience new life.
In dying to ourselves, we receive new life.
Beautiful feast day of Christ our King.
All of us are invited to participate and to share
In this wonderful feast.
Christ, who gave His life out of love for you and for me.
I go back to the parish of Christ the King.
Christ the King, who sits on His throne in glory.
Christ our King, crucified on the back wall of the church.
And in between those two moments
Of our faith we live constantly.
And we embrace and we know that we’re loved by God.
We take this opportunity now to place our own prayers,
Hopes, and dreams before Christ our King.
Our response to each prayer will be:
“Lord, hear our prayer.”
For the Church, that our belief in Christ as King
Will lead us to value the things of God’s Kingdom
More than the things of the earth.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For the children of Mercy Home,
As they continue to work on rebuilding their lives,
May they find strength in the Lord’s love.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For victims of crime, may they find renewal of faith in others
Through Christ’s example of forgiveness.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray always the prayer of the Angels in Heaven,
That there might be peace on earth
And goodwill toward all.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
Gracious and loving God,
We thank You for the gift of Your Son, Christ our King,
Who invites us into discipleship.
May we live in this world as true disciples,
Enhancing it and making it better through Christ our Lord.
-Amen.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ [Piano music continues] ∫
Pray, my friends, my sisters, my brothers,
That this, our sacrifice, may be acceptable
To God, the Father Almighty.
-May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands,
For the praise and glory of God’s Name,
For our good and the good of all the Holy Church.
As we offer You, O Lord,
The sacrifice by which the human race is reconciled to You,
We humbly pray that Your Son Himself
May bestow on all nations the gifts of unity and peace
Through Christ our Lord.
-Amen.
The Lord is with you.
-And with your Spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
-We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
-It is right and just.
It is truly right and just,
Our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere
To give You thanks, Lord, Holy Father,
Almighty and Eternal God.
For You anointed Your Only Begotten Son,
Our Lord Jesus Christ, with the oil of gladness,
As the Eternal Priest and the King of all Creation,
So that by offering Himself on the Altar of the Cross
As a spotless sacrifice to bring us peace,
He might accomplish the mysteries of human Redemption
And, making all created things subject to His rule,
He might present to the immensity of Your majesty
An Eternal and Universal Kingdom—
A Kingdom of Truth and of Life,
A Kingdom of Holiness and of Grace,
A Kingdom of Justice, Love, and of Peace.
And so with the Angels and with the Archangels,
With Thrones and Dominions,
With all the hosts and the Powers of Heaven,
We sing the hymn of Your glory;
As without end, we acclaim:
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts, ∫
∫ Heaven and Earth are full of Your Glory, ∫
∫ Hosanna in the highest; ∫
∫ Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord, ∫
∫ Hosanna in the highest. ∫
You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
By sending down Your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
So that they become for us
The Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time He was betrayed
And entered willingly into His Passion,
He took bread, and giving thanks, He broke it.
He gave it to His disciples, saying
“Take this, all of you, and eat of it,
For this is My Body which will be given up for you.”
In a similar way, when the supper was ended,
He took the chalice, and once more giving thanks,
He gave it to His disciples, saying:
“Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
For this is the chalice of My Blood,
The Blood of the new and eternal covenant,
Which will be poured out for you and for many
For the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in memory of Me.”
The Mystery of Faith.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, ∫
∫ We proclaim Your death, O Lord, ∫
∫ Until You come again. ∫
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial
Of His death and His Resurrection,
We offer to You, Lord, the Bread of Life
And the Chalice of Salvation,
Giving thanks that You have held us worthy
To be in Your presence and minister to You.
Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
We may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, Your Church spread throughout the world,
And bring her to the fullness of charity,
Together with our Holy Father, with our Bishop,
And with all Your faithful people.
Remember also our sisters and brothers
Who have fallen asleep in the hope of the Resurrection,
And all those who have died in Your mercy.
Welcome them into the light of Your presence.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
That with the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God,
With her blessed spouse, Joseph,
With the blessed Apostles and with the Martyrs,
With all the Saints who have pleased You throughout the ages,
We may merit to be coheirs to eternal life
And may praise and glorify You
Through Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through Him, and with Him, and in Him,
O God, Almighty Father,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
All glory and honor is Yours, forever and ever.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ Amen, Amen, Amen. ∫
And gathered with His friends, with His disciples,
He taught them how to pray:
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
And graciously grant peace in our day,
That by the help of Your mercy
We may be freed from sin and safe from all distress,
As we await the blessed hope,
The coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
For the Kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours,
Now and forever.
And Lord Jesus Christ, who said to His Apostles,
“Peace I leave you, My peace I give you,”
Look not on our sins, but on the faith of Your Church,
And graciously grant her peace and unity
In accordance with Your will,
Who lives and reigns forever and ever.
-Amen.
That peace of the risen Lord be with each of you.
-And with your Spirit.
Share with one another a sign of the Lord’s peace.
And for those of you who are at home celebrating
This Eucharist with us here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls,
We offer you God’s choicest blessings
And the very peace of Christ in your lives.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ You take away the sins of the world, ∫
∫ Have mercy on us. ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ You take away the sins of the world, ∫
∫ Have mercy on us. ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ You take away the sins of the world, ∫
∫ Grant us peace. ∫
My friends, behold Jesus.
Behold the Lamb of God
Who takes away the sins of the world,
The Bread of Life that comes down from Heaven.
Blessed are those invited to the supper of the Lamb.
-Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof,
But only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
For those of you at home,
Please turn to page six in your TV Mass guide
And join in singing our Communion song,
“May the Road Rise to Meet You.”
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ May the road rise to meet you. ∫
∫ May the wind be at your back. ∫
∫ May the sun shine warm upon your face. ∫
∫ May the rain fall softly on your fields, ∫
∫ And until we meet again, ∫
∫ May you keep safe in the gentle loving arms of God. ∫
And we continue our prayer.
Having received the food of immortality,
We ask, O Lord, that, glorying in obedience
To the commands of Christ, the King of the Universe,
We may live with Him eternally in His heavenly Kingdom,
He who lives and reigns forever and ever.
-Amen.
Before the final blessing, once again,
I just want to thank all of you for joining us
And participating in the celebration of this Eucharist
As we come to the end of another liturgical year.
As we anticipate the First Sunday of Advent next year,
Continue, please, to pray for the children
Here at Mercy Home and for all of my co-workers.
Thank you for your generosity.
The Lord is with you.
-And with your Spirit.
May the many blessings of Almighty God,
The Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Come upon all of you,
Your family members and your friends,
And remain with you forever.
-Amen.
Our Mass has ended.
Go in peace.
-Thanks be to God.

∫ Lamb of God, ∫

∫ You take away the sins of the world, ∫

∫ Songs of Rejoicing Have Begun. ∫
∫ Alleluia! ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! ∫
We gather at the end of the Liturgical Year
Around the Table of the Lord
To celebrate this wonderful feast day of Christ the King.
And we offer our prayer in the Name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit.
-Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the communion of the Holy Spirit,
Be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
My friends, as we gather we simply pause for a moment.
We acknowledge our faults and failings.
We graciously receive the Lord’s loving forgiveness.
Lord Jesus, we believe that You are the Way
That leads us to the Father.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, we believe that You are Truth
And that Your Truth reveals God’s love for us.
Christ, have mercy.
-Christ, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, we believe that You are Life.
That through Your Life, Death, and Resurrection,
You have promised us New Life in You.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
May Almighty God have mercy on us,
Forgive us of our sin,
And bring us to Life Everlasting.
-Amen.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ [Piano music] ∫
And on Earth,
The visible and the invisible,
Whether Thrones or Dominions or Principalities or Powers;
And so with the Angels and with the Archangels,
With Thrones and Dominions,
With all the hosts and the Powers of Heaven,
We sing the hymn of Your glory;

And entered willingly into His Passion,
He took bread, and giving thanks, He broke it.

In a similar way, when the supper was ended,
He took the chalice, and once more giving thanks,
