∫ [Piano music continues] ∫

∫ O God, almighty father, creator of all things, ∫

∫ The heavens stand in wonder while earth your glory sings. ∫

∫ O most holy trinity undivided unity, ∫

∫ Holy God, mighty God, God immortal he adored. ∫

In the name of the father

And of the son

And of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.

The Lord be with you.

-And with your spirit.

Good morning brothers and sisters.

Welcome from mass on this feast of the most holy trinity.

We prepare ourselves to celebrate these sacred mysteries

By calling to mind our sins.

-I confess to almighty God

And to you my brothers and sisters

That I have greatly sinned

In my thoughts and in my words

In what I have done and in what I have failed to do.

Through my fault, through my fault,

Through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin,

All the angels and saints and to you my brothers and sisters

To pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us,

Forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.

-Amen.

Lord have mercy.

-Lord have mercy.

Christ have mercy.

-Christ have mercy.

Lord have mercy.

-Lord have mercy.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ Glory to God in the highest ∫

∫ And on earth peace to people of good will. ∫

∫ Glory to God in the highest ∫

∫ And on earth peace to people of good will. ∫

Let us pray.

God, our father, who by sending into the world

The word of truth and the spirit of sanctification

Made known to the human race your wondrous mystery.

Grant us we pray that in professing the true faith

We may acknowledge the trinity of eternal glory

And adore your unity, powerful and majesty.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son,

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God forever and ever.

-Amen.

A reading from the book of proverbs.

Thus says the wisdom of God.

The Lord possessed me the beginning of his ways,

The forerunner of his prodigies of long ago.

From of old I was poured forth

At the first before the earth.

When there were no depths, I was brought forth.

When there were no fountains or springs of water.

Before the mountains were settled into place.

Before the hills, I was brought forth.

While as yet the earth and fields were not made

Nor the first clods of the world.

When the Lord established the heavens, I was there.

When he marked out the vault over the face of the deep,

When he made firm the skies above,

When he fixed fast the foundations of the earth,

When he set for the sea its limit so that the water

Should not transgress his command,

Then I was beside him as his craftsman.

And I was his delight day by day.

Playing before him all the while.

Playing on the surface of his earth.

And I found delight in the human race.

The word of the Lord.

-Thanks be to God.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ O Lord our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth. ∫

∫ O Lord our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth. ∫

∫ When I see the heavens, the work of your fingers. ∫

∫ The moon and the stars which you arranged. ∫

∫ What is man that you should keep him in mind, ∫

∫ The son of man that you care for him? ∫

∫ O Lord our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth. ∫

A reading from the letter of st. Paul to the romans.

Brothers and sisters, we have peace with God

Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Through him we have gained access by faith

To this grace in which we stand.

And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions.

Knowing that affliction produces endurance.

And endurance, proven character.

And proven character, hope.

And hope does not disappoint.

Because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts.

Through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

The word of the Lord.

-Thanks be to God.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. ∫

∫ Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. ∫

∫ Glory to the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. ∫

∫ To God who is, who was, and who is to come. ∫

∫ Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. ∫

The Lord be with you.

-And with your spirit.

A reading from the holy gospel according to john.

-Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus said to his disciples, “i have much more to tell you,

But you cannot bear it now.

But when he comes, the spirit of truth,

He will guide you to all truth.

He will not speak on his own,

But he will speak what he hears.

And will declare to you the things that are coming.

He will glorify me because he will take

From what is mine and declare it to you.

Everything that the father has is mine.

For this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine

And declare it to you.”

The gospel of the Lord.

-Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

So today’s the feast of the holy trinity.

As we said at the beginning of mass, it’s also father’s day.

So I want to give a special shout out

To all of our fathers out there, especially to my own father.

I’m grateful to God for him and for the love

That he has given me and my siblings over these years.

The example of, like St. Paul says,

Endurance and proving character.

One thing about my dad,

And I hope he’s not going to be watching this

Because it’s probably going to embarrass him a little bit.

My dad is a man without, he’s not into pretenses

Or he’s very kind of straightforward, no nonsense.

He does kind of what’s the right thing to do.

It doesn’t matter if it’s popular or not.

He’s not into political parties or ideologies, whatever.

It’s just the thing to do.

So he’s a man, I would say,

Even though he’s a very smart man,

He’s a man out of the heart, follows his heart.

So our fathers and our mothers as well for that matter,

We celebrated mother’s day last month.

They are reflections of God the father.

So it’s fitting that we celebrate

Father’s day on this feast of the holy trinity,

Father, son and Holy Spirit.

My dad, not too long ago,

He sat, I’m the third of four, so there’s four siblings

And my niece and nephews, of course.

My mom and my dad,

They sat us down and they basically, you know,

They’re still in good health and everything,

But they just basically wanted to lay out for us

The plan for when they pass on,

Essentially like our inheritance.

You know, who’s going to get what

And basically everything is going to be split equally

Amongst the four of us.

Father Scott was right there with the Mercy Home envelope

To get that collection.

But anyways, my dad basically said,

You know, essentially the whole point of his career

Was obviously when we were younger to provide for us,

And now it’s basically to give it all away,

Give it all away to us, to others.

And so I was thinking about that.

His whole existence, you could say,

Was not for himself.

He was to give it away.

Jesus says the same thing here at the last supper, our gospel.

The father has taken what is his

And declaring it to the son, and then the son

Is taking what is his and declaring it to each one of us.

So today is a day, I think, of great love.

You know, they call the feast of the holy trinity the –

Kind of like the great intellectual day –

To try to figure out how three are one.

But, you know, forget that.

To me, it’s a day of the heart.

When I heard my mom and my dad say, you know,

Everything that we’ve been working for our entire lives is for you.

I couldn’t help but feel love

And feel kind of inspired to want to love them in return

And kind of do the same thing,

Not to be selfish in my life, to work, to give it away.

So when Jesus says this to us, look,

I came to this earth and I’m in the trinity.

I could have just stayed up in heaven,

You know, and had things easy.

But I came down to give everything to you,

To the apostles and to you, my brothers and sisters.

That hopefully stirs within us a similar sort of love,

A passion, and a desire to imitate the same.

So again, today is a day of the heart, not so much the head.

Jesus in the last supper,

When he’s saying this whole thing in the final,

You know, before he died, we were reading in the gospel.

He also says, basically, look, the day’s going to come.

Remember what he was saying earlier.

You can’t, there’s so much more I have to tell you,

But you can’t bear it now.

That actually reminds me of the line from benjamin franklin.

You know, when I was 16, my dad knew nothing.

When I was 19, I was surprised how much my dad learned in three years.

You know, I appreciated my father over the years.

So there’s only so much we can handle at a time.

But Jesus then will go on to say,

He goes, the day’s going to come

When you’re not going to ask any more questions.

No more questions.

Now, the reason why this is going to be is either two.

One, we’re going to see everything and understand it,

Or we’re just going to accept things as they are.

So when it comes to the trinity, when it comes to our faith,

We can always have a million questions.

You know, why are things this way?

How can God be father, son, and Holy Spirit at the same time?

Why is there evil?

All the questions we have about our catholic faith.

And what today’s an invitation says,

Like, you know what, don’t worry about it.

God will make it clear to us at some point,

Or we’ll just accept it as it is.

And accepting it will give us great freedom.

And then we’ll be able to live like Christ did

With that joy in our hearts

And to be able to spread that joy.

So we pray on this day for the strengthening of our church

And model of the trinity.

Again, we pray for all parents,

Mothers, all fathers,

All those who act as spiritual mothers and spiritual fathers.

May they continue to shine like the trinity

And make the kingdom of God come about in our world.

-Amen.

And so, friends, we profess our faith now together:

I believe in one God, the father almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth,

Of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

The only begotten son of God,

Born of the father before all ages,

God from God, light from light, true God from true God,

Begotten not made, consubstantial with the father.

Through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation,

He came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit

Was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

He suffered death and was buried

And rose again on the third day

In accordance with the scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

And is seated at the right hand of the father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead

And his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The Lord, the giver of life,

Who proceeds from the father and the son,

Who with the father and the son is adored and glorified,

Who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins

And I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

And the life of the world to come.

-Amen.

So we lift our hearts and our petitions

To our most merciful father in heaven.

Our response to each prayer will be,

“Lord, hear our prayer.”

For all clergy who spread the gospel throughout the world,

May they help bring unity to those

Who hear and see their good works.

We pray to the Lord.

-Lord, hear our prayer.

For nations divided by hatred, violence, and fear,

May the spirit of truth lead them to harmony and peace.

We pray to the Lord.

-Lord, hear our prayer.

For the boys and girls of Mercy Home,

May they find inspiration in God’s love

As they continue their healing.

We pray to the Lord.

-Lord, hear our prayer.

For all the fathers, grandfathers, Godfathers,

And father figures in our lives,

May the Lord bless them with courage,

Wisdom, guidance, and love.

We pray to the Lord.

-Lord, hear our prayer.

Almighty and loving father, we praise you this day.

Please draw near to us.

Show us your ways and answer these prayers.

We make them with confidence through Christ our Lord.

-Amen.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ [Piano music continues] ∫

Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours

May be acceptable to God the almighty father.

-May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands

For the praise and glory of his name.

For our good and the good of all his holy church.

Sanctify by the invocation of your name,

We pray, O Lord our God,

This oblation of our service, and by it make of us

An eternal offering to you through Christ our Lord.

-Amen.

The Lord be with you.

-And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

-We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

-It is right and just.

It is truly right and just.

Our duty and our salvation

Always and everywhere to give you thanks,

Lord, holy father, almighty and eternal God.

For with your only begotten son

And the Holy Spirit, you are one God, one Lord.

Not in the unity of a single person,

But in a trinity of one substance.

For what you have revealed to us of your glory,

We believe equally of your son and of the Holy Spirit.

Instead in the confessing of the true and eternal Godhead,

You might be adored in what is proper to each person,

Their unity and substance and their equality and majesty.

For this is praised by the angels and archangels,

Cherubim too and seraphim,

Who never cease to cry out each day

As with one voice they acclaim.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. ∫

∫ Heaven and earth are full of your glory. ∫

∫ Hosanna in the highest. ∫

∫ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. ∫

∫ Hosanna in the highest. ∫

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.

Make holy, therefore, these gifts we pray

By sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall

So that they may become for us

The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed

And entered willingly into his passion,

He took bread and giving thanks,

Broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying,

“Take this, all of you, and eat of it,

For this is my body, which will be given up for you.”

In a similar way, when supper was ended,

He took the chalice and once more giving thanks,

He gave it to his disciples, saying,

“Take this, all of you, and drink from it,

For this is the chalice of my blood,

The blood of the new and eternal covenant,

Which will be poured out for you and for many

For the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.”

The mystery of faith.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ When we eat this bread and drink this cup, ∫

∫ We proclaim your death, O Lord, ∫

∫ Until you come again. ∫

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial

Of his death and resurrection,

We offer you, Lord, the bread of life

And the chalice of salvation,

Giving thanks to you who have held us worthy

To be in your presence and minister to you.

Humbly we pray the partaking of the body and blood of Christ,

We may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world

And bring her to the fullness of charity,

Together with our pope

And our archbishop and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters

Who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection

And all who have died in your mercy.

Welcome them into the light of your face.

Have mercy on us all, we pray,

That with the blessed Virgin Mary, mother of God,

Blessed joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles,

And all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,

We may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,

And may praise and glorify you through your son, Jesus Christ.

Through him and with him and in him,

O God, almighty father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

All glory and honor is yours forever and ever.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ Amen, amen, amen. ∫

Let us all join our voices now together,

And pray the words that Jesus taught us:

Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

Graciously grant peace in our days,

That by the help of your mercy we may be

Always free from sin and safe from all distress,

As we await the blessed hope

And the coming of our savior, Jesus Christ.

For the kingdom, the power,

And the glory are yours, now and forever.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles,

“Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,”

Look not on our sins,

But on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her

Peace and unity in accordance with your will,

Who live and reign forever and ever.

-Amen.

The peace of the Lord be with you always.

-And with your spirit.

Let us offer each other a sign of peace.

My dear brothers and sisters at home, peace be with you.

Thank you again for joining us.

We hope you are doing well

And know that we are praying for you.

We thank you for giving us your intentions to pray for

And all of your support at Mercy Home.

So on behalf of Father Donahue, Cardinal Cupich, all the staff

Here at Mercy Home, God bless you this day.

And may you enjoy the Lord’s peace.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ Lamb of God, ∫

∫ You take away the sins of the world: ∫

∫ Have mercy on us. ∫

∫ Lamb of God, ∫

∫ You take away the sins of the world: ∫

∫ Have mercy on us. ∫

∫ Lamb of God, ∫

∫ You take away the sins of the world: ∫

∫ Grant us peace. ∫

Behold the lamb of God.

Behold him, who takes away the sins of the world.

Blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb.

-Lord, I’m not worthy that you should enter under my roof,

But only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

For those of you at home,

Please turn to page 6 in your tv mass guide

And join in singing our communion song,

“Love is his word.”

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ Love is his word, love is his way, ∫

∫ Feasting with all, fasting alone, ∫

∫ Living and dying, rising again. ∫

∫ Love only, love is his way. ∫

∫ Richer than gold is the love of my Lord, ∫

∫ Better than splendor or wealth. ∫

∫ Richer than gold is the love of my Lord, ∫

∫ Better than splendor or wealth. ∫

∫ Love is his way, love is his mark, ∫

∫ Sharing his last Passover feast. ∫

∫ Guest at his table, host to the twelve. ∫

∫ Love only, love is his mark. ∫

∫ Richer than gold is the love of my Lord, ∫

∫ Better than splendor or wealth. ∫

∫ Richer than gold is the love of my Lord, ∫

∫ Better than splendor or wealth. ∫

My dear brothers and sisters, I invite you to join me now

In our prayer for the children of Mercy Home.

Our lady of mercy, we pray that you will guide,

Protect and bless all boys and girls

Who this day have a home called mercy.

May they find the father’s mercy as we offer them our hearts

In the name of your son, Jesus Christ.

May they seek God’s mercy in action

Through our love, prayers and sacrifices.

Let us pray.

May receiving this sacrament,

O Lord, our God, bring us health of body and soul

As we confess your eternal holy trinity

And undivided unity through Christ our Lord.

-Amen.

Thank you again for joining us.

We hope you have a wonderful rest of your Sunday.

And as we enter into the summer season,

May you also enjoy this beautiful weather.

The Lord be with you.

-And with your spirit.

Bow your heads and pray for God’s blessing.

May God the father of lights,

Who is pleased to enlighten the disciples’ minds

By the outpouring of the spirit, the paraclete,

Grant you gladness by his blessing and make you

Always abound with the gifts of the same spirit.

Amen.

May the wondrous flame

That appeared above the disciples

Powerfully cleanse your hearts from every evil

And pervade them with its purifying light.

Amen.

And may God, who has been pleased

To unite many tongues in the profession of one faith,

Give you perseverance in that same faith. And by believing,

May you journey from hope to clear vision.

Amen.

And may the peace and blessing of almighty God,

The father and the son and the Holy Spirit

Come down on you all and remain with you forever.

-Amen.

Go in peace.

-Thanks be to God.

∫ [Piano music] ∫

∫ I sing the mighty power of God ∫

∫ That made the mountains rise, ∫

∫ That spread the flowing seas abroad, ∫

∫ And built the lofty skies, ∫

∫ I sing the wisdom that ordained ∫

∫ The sun to rule by day… ∫

Hello, my friends. As you know, as I know,

This tv ministry at Mercy Home is so important.

It allows us to gather wherever you may be

It allows you and me to pray for the children

Here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.

We’re nourished by our presence together

And by the celebration of the eucharist.

Behold the lamb of God.

Behold him, who takes away the sins of the world.

Blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb.

-Lord, I’m not worthy that you should enter under my roof,

But only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

For those of you at home,

Please turn to page 6 in your tv mass guide

And join in singing our communion song,

“Love is his word.”

∫ That made the mountains rise, ∫

∫ That spread the flowing seas abroad, ∫

∫ And built the lofty skies, ∫

∫ I sing the wisdom that ordained ∫

∫ The sun to rule by day… ∫

Hello, my friends. As you know, as I know,

This tv ministry at Mercy Home is so important.

To participate in the prayer of the church.

It allows us to pray for one another

And how important it is.

It allows you and me to pray for the children

Here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.

We’re nourished by our presence together

And by the celebration of the eucharist.

I just want to take this opportunity

To thank you so very much for the ways in which you support

This mass here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.

Please consider doing that going forward as well.

May God bless you and your family and your friends

For all you do for the tv mass at Mercy Home

And for our children.

Homily Video

The Most Holy Trinity Homily Transcript

-Amen.
