We mark our prayer, friends, together in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
We gather together in these days of August. We gather around this Eucharistic table and to hear the word of God proclaimed in our midst. Let us be mindful of any ways we’re in need of God’s pardon and peace as we engage these sacred mysteries.
Lord Jesus, you bring us healing in our time of challenge. Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
You accompany us day in and day out all our years. You accompany us. Christ, have mercy.
-Christ, have mercy.
And Lord Jesus, you welcome us into the gates of paradise to be with you forever in heaven. Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.
-Amen.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
∫ Glory to God in the highest ∫

Let us pray. O God, who have prepared for those who love you good things which no eye can see, fill our hearts, we pray, with the warmth of your love, so that loving you in all things and above all things, we may attain your promises which surpass every human desire. Through Jesus your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
-Amen.
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah.
Thus says the Lord, observe what is right, do what is just. For my salvation is about to come, my justice about to be revealed. The foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, ministering to him, loving the name of the Lord and becoming his servants, all who keep the Sabbath free from profanation and hold to my covenant, them I will bring to my holy mountain and make joyful in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be acceptable on my altar for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.
The word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
∫ O God, O God, let all the nations praise you. ∫
∫ O God, O God, let all the nations praise you. ∫
∫ O God, be gracious and bless us, ∫
∫ and let your face shed its light upon us. ∫
∫ so will your ways be known upon earth, ∫
∫ and all nations learn your salvation. ∫
∫ O God, O God, let all the nations praise you. ∫
A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Romans.
Brothers and sisters, I am speaking to you gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the gentiles, I glory in my ministry in order to make my race jealous and thus save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable, just as you once disobeyed God, but have now received mercy because of their disobedience. So they have now disobeyed in order that, by virtue of the mercy shown to you, they too may now receive mercy. For God delivered all to disobedience that he might have mercy upon all.
The word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.

∫ Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom ∫
∫ and cured every disease among the people. ∫

The Lord be with you.
-And with your spirit.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew.
-Glory to you, O Lord.
May the word of God be always on our minds, on our lips, and in our hearts.
At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came out and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David. My daughter is tormented by a demon.” But Jesus did not say a word in answer to her. Jesus’ disciples came and asked him, “Shall we send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.” Jesus said in reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But the woman came and did Jesus’ homage, saying, “Lord, help me.” He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.” Jesus said to her in reply, “Oh woman, great is your faith. Let it be done for you as you wish.” And the woman’s daughter was healed from that hour.
The Gospel of the Lord.
-Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Imagine sometimes, I know for me, I have to be careful of my first reaction. I’ve got to be careful of the first thing that comes to my heart or to my mind, because it may not be the most reflected reaction. I’ll be honest, it may not be the most reflected action.
In today’s Gospel, we hear about Jesus’ first reaction of the Canaanite woman. He doesn’t really want to have anything to do with her. Let’s be super honest. Jesus doesn’t want to have anything to do with her. But over time, when he sees her powerful faith, he absolutely reconsiders and brings her healing.
Especially when it comes to healing, we have to be cautious of our first reactions, I imagine. When we first get that diagnosis, shock and horror, perhaps. I can’t believe it, as opposed to perhaps trusting in Jesus’ healing accompaniment of us.
I had that reaction, not for myself, but for two women who I heard about a day apart. Two young women, both were diagnosed with breast cancer. One woman, I celebrated the marriage for her and her husband. She has four children, sure enough after the fourth child, diagnosis of breast cancer. And the next day, to hear about another young woman who just got married, they’re looking to have children, also diagnosed with breast cancer. Within two days, two diagnoses I heard about. And my first reaction was shock and horror. Shock, mostly. How could this be?
So I had to relook at my reaction to these young ladies who were looking for healing and looking for Jesus’ compassionate accompaniment in their lives. And I had to remind myself of that. And I had to remind the young ladies of the desire that Jesus has to bring them healing. And the desire that Jesus has to accompany them on their journey. Both are on their journey now, going through the typical chemotherapy and surgery and radiation, all that. They’re on their journey of healing.
And I had to look at my own first reaction and remember that I want to share with them what I believe. That Jesus offers us his healing touch. And that Jesus accompanies us on the challenges that we face in life. And don’t be down on yourself or disappointed if that’s not your first reaction. But let’s gather here and remember that we believe that. Jesus offers us his healing touch. And Jesus accompanies us on the journeys. The good ones and the challenging ones, Jesus accompanies us on the journey.
Jesus did exactly that for the Canaanite woman. His first reaction was, maybe not for you, but then he reconsidered and he certainly offered that Canaanite woman healing immediately for her daughter and accompanied them forever. So he does for us through Baptism. He offers us healing and accompaniment on our journey. Amen.
For our celebration today, let’s pray the Nicene Creed. We pray together:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and he suffered death and was buried. And rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. And his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
My sisters and brothers, with great confidence in Jesus’ accompanying us and healing us, we offer our prayers and petitions. Our response to each prayer will be, “Lord, hear our prayer.”
For our Holy Father and members of the clergy, as they do God’s work around the world, we pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For those suffering from alcohol and drug addictions, may Christ’s presence give them strength and perseverance to overcome their challenges. We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For the children and benefactors of Mercy Home, may our Lord bless them abundantly with the gift of faith. We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For those who live in poverty around the world, may the compassion of others give them opportunity for an improved life. We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
Compassionate and generous God, hear the prayers of your faithful daughters and sons. In your mercy and love, send the healing power of Jesus upon all of us and answer these, our prayers. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
-Amen.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth, work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
The mystery of this water and wine will come to show the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share with humanity.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine, work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.
[Priest prays quietly]
Wash away my iniquity, cleanse me from all my sinfulness.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
Friends, pray that my sacrifice, in fact your sacrifice, may be acceptable to God the almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. Receive our oblation, O Lord, by which is brought about a glorious exchange, that by offering what you have given, we may merit to receive your very self, through Christ our Lord.
-Amen.
The Lord be with you.
-And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
-We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
-It is right and just.
It is truly right and just, our duty, our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For in you we live and move and have our being. And while in this body, we not only experience the daily effects of your care, but even now possess the pledge of life eternal. For having received the first fruits of the Spirit, through whom you raised up Jesus from the dead, we hope for an everlasting share in the paschal mystery. And so with all the angels, we praise you, as in joyful celebration, we acclaim:
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
∫ Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, ∫
∫ heaven and earth are full of your glory. ∫
∫ hosanna in the highest. ∫
∫ blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. ∫
∫ hosanna in the highest. ∫
You are indeed holy, O Lord, the font of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dew fall, so that they may become for us the Body and Blood of your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, Jesus took bread and giving thanks broke it. He gave it to his disciples saying, “Take this. Take this, all of you, and eat of it. For this is my Body, which will be given up for you.”
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples saying, “Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, do this in memory of me.”
Friends, the mystery of faith.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
∫ When we eat this bread and drink this cup, ∫
∫ we proclaim your death, O Lord, ∫
∫ until you come again. ∫
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you’ve held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly, we pray that partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ Jesus, we may be gathered into one by your Holy Spirit. And remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world. Bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Blase our Archbishop, and all the clergy. Remember, especially our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Finally, have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the Apostles, blessed Apostles, Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse, and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life. May we praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
∫ Amen, amen, amen. ∫
At the Savior’s command, informed by divine teaching, we friends have the courage to pray.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
-For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.
Lord Jesus, who said to your Apostles, “Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.” Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.
-Amen.
Friends, the peace of the Lord be with you always.
-And with your spirit.
Let’s offer each other a sign of Christ’s peace. On behalf of everyone here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, we wish you and pray for you that peace may reign in your life. Peace be with you.

∫ you take away the sins of the world, ∫

Sisters and brothers in faith, behold the Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
-Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
May the Body and Blood of Christ keep us all safe for everlasting life.

For those of you at home, please turn to page six in your TV Mass guide and join in singing our communion song, “Be Not Afraid.”
∫ [Piano playing] ∫
∫ You shall cross the barren desert, ∫
∫ but you shall not die of thirst. ∫
∫ you shall wander far in safety, ∫
∫ though you do not know the way. ∫
∫ you shall speak your words in foreign lands ∫

∫ you shall see the face of God and live. ∫
∫ be not afraid. ∫
∫ I go before you always. ∫
∫ come, follow me, ∫
∫ and I will give you rest. ∫
Friends, please join me in praying the prayer for our boys and girls at Mercy Home. We have the courage to pray together:
O Lady of Mercy, we pray that you will guide, protect and bless all boys and girls who this day have a home called Mercy. May they find the Father’s mercy as we offer them our hearts in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. May they see God’s mercy in action through our love, prayers and sacrifices.
Let us gather our prayers.
Loving God, may partakers of Christ through these sacraments, we humbly implore your mercy that conform to Jesus’ image here on earth. We may merit also to be his co-heirs in heaven, who lives and reigns forever and ever.
-Amen.
And may almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
-Amen.
Friends, our beautiful Mass has ended. Let us go in peace.
-Thanks be to God.

∫ There’s a wideness in God’s mercy ∫
∫ like the wideness of the sea; ∫
∫ there’s a kindness in God’s justice ∫
∫ which is more than liberty. ∫
∫ there is plentiful… ∫
Hello, my friends, as you know, as I know, this TV ministry at Mercy Home is so important. It allows us to gather wherever you may be to participate in the prayer of the Church. It allows us to pray for one another – and how important it is. It allows you and me to pray for the children here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. We’re nourished by our presence together and by the celebration of the Eucharist.
I just want to take this opportunity to thank you so very much for the ways in which you support this Mass here, at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. Please consider doing that going forward as well. May God bless you and your family and your friends for all you do for the TV Mass at Mercy Home and for our children.

Good morning and welcome to Sunday Mass at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. Today we celebrate the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. My name is Dan Riley. I am joined by Tom McNamara and Matt Bran, and our celebrant is Father Jason Malave.
∫ All creatures of our God and King, ∫

∫ alleluia! ∫
-Amen.

∫ Glory to God in the highest ∫
∫ and on earth peace to people of good will. ∫

∫ Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. ∫

∫ Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom ∫
∫ and cured every disease among the people. ∫
∫ Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Friends, the mystery of faith.
