Throughout the month of December, Mercy Home invites you to count down the days till the holiday with our 12 Kids of Christmas! Every few days, we’ll bring you a remarkable story of a child’s journey from hurt to hope—a journey that is only made possible through your generous support and partnership in our mission.
So pour a mug of hot cocoa and enjoy these stories—some heartwarming, some tragic—but all of them filled with hope. As you read, know that your friendship is a gift to our kids, bringing them safety, healing and a loving Home for the holidays. Please consider sharing a gift today to make the Christmas season bright for each of our kids.
Day 1 - Tim’s EssayOne day at school, before he came to Mercy Home, 10-year-old Tim was asked to write an essay about what he wanted for Christmas. Instead of writing about gifts or toys, Tim described spending his Christmases alone in a dark and empty house. |
Day 2 - Paris’ StoryWhat would you do if the two most important people in your life passed away? Paris, a young man living at Mercy Home, found himself answering that question at much too early of an age. |
Day 3 - Jimmy’s StoryChristmas became a day like all the others—just another day for Jimmy to get beaten up by his dad. |
Day 4 - Sophie’s StoryAfter her father looked her square in the eye and told her she didn’t deserve anything for Christmas, Sophie vowed to ignore the holidays for as long she lived. |
Day 5 - Malika’s StoryNot old enough to understand why she couldn’t live with her mother, Malika, then 4 years old, began to act out. It wasn’t until she came to Mercy Home that Malika realized her full potential. |
Day 6 - Julia’s StoryAfter being thrown out of her house and roaming the streets for two months, Julia arrived at Mercy Home’s door. |
Day 7 - Charlie’s StoryWhen Charlie discovered that his family had been in a fatal car crash on Christmas Eve, he thought his life was over. |
Day 8 - Monuaye’s StoryMonuaye, now 21, has found success that seemed but a dream for a child fleeing violence half a world away. |
