Body and Blood of Christ.
My name is Dan Riley.
I am joined by Tom McNamara and Ian McBride,
And our Celebrant is Father Scott Donahue,
President of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
∫ Shepherd of souls, refresh and bless ∫
∫ your chosen pilgrim flock ∫
∫ with manna in the wilderness, ∫
∫ with water from the rock. ∫
∫ we would not live by bread alone, ∫
∫ but by your word of grace, ∫
∫ in strength of which we travel on ∫
∫ to our abiding place. ∫
We gather together around the Lord’s Table
To celebrate this wonderful Feast Day of Corpus Christi,
The Body and Blood of Christ,
As we offer our prayer together in the name of the Father
And of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
-Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
And the love of God and the Communion of the Holy Spirit
Be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
And as we gather, we pause for just a moment.
We acknowledge our dependency upon God and all things,
And we seek the Lord’s merciful and loving forgiveness.
Lord Jesus, we believe that you are the Way
That leads us to the Father.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
We believe your word, your truth,
Reveals God’s love for each of us.
Christ, have mercy.
-Christ, have mercy.
And we believe through your life and your death
And Resurrection you have promised us a new life in you.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
May almighty God have mercy on us,
Forgive us of our sin,
And bring us to life everlasting.
-Amen.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Glory to God in the highest, ∫
∫ and on earth peace to people of good will. ∫

My friends, let us pray.
O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament
Have left us a memorial of your Passion.
Grant we pray, so to revere the Sacred Mysteries
Of your Body and Blood that we may always
Experience in ourselves the fruits of your Redemption.
Who lives and reigns with God, the Father
In the unity of the Holy Spirit.
One God forever and ever.
-Amen.
A reading from the Book of Deuteronomy.
Moses said to the people,
“Remember how for 40 years now,
“the Lord your God has directed all your journeying
“in the desert so as to test you by affliction,
“to find out whether or not it was your intention
“to keep his commands.
“He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger
“and then fed you with manna,
“a food unknown to you and your fathers,
“in order to show you that not by bread alone does one live
“but by every word that comes forth
“from the mouth of the Lord.
“Do not forget the Lord your God,
“who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
“that place of slavery,
“who guided you through the vast and terrible desert
“with its serpents and scorpions,
“its parched and waterless ground,
“who brought forth water for you from the filthy rock
“and fed you in the desert with manna,
“a food unknown to your fathers.”
The word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. ∫
∫ Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. ∫
∫ O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord! ∫
∫ O Sion, praise your God! ∫
∫ He has strengthened the bars of your gates; ∫
∫ He has blessed your children within you. ∫
∫ Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. ∫
A reading from the first letter of St. Paul
To the Corinthians.
Brothers and sisters, the cup of blessing that we bless,
Is it not a participation in the Blood of Christ?
The bread that we break,
Is it not a participation in the Body of Christ?
Because the loaf of bread is one,
We, though many, are one Body,
For we all partake in that one loaf.
The word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
∫ I am the living Bread that came down from Heaven ∫
∫ says the Lord; ∫
∫ whoever eats this Bread will live forever. ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
The Lord be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
Ours is a reading taken from the Holy Gospel
According to St. John.
-Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus said to the Jewish crowds,
“I am the living Bread that came down from Heaven.
“Whoever eats this Bread will live forever,
“and the Bread that I give is my Flesh
“for the life of the world.”
The Jews quarreled among themselves saying,
“How can this man give us his Flesh to eat?”
And Jesus said to them,
“Amen, Amen, I say to you,
“unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man
“and drink his Blood,
“you do not have life within you.
“Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood
“has eternal life,
“and I will raise them up on the last day,
“for my Flesh is true food and my Blood true drink.
“Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood
“remains in me and I in them.
“just as the living Father sent me,
“and I have life because of the Father,
“so also the one who feeds on me
“will have life because of me.
“this is the Bread that came down from Heaven.
“unlike your ancestors who ate and still died,
“whoever eats this Bread will live forever.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
-Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Several years ago, maybe more than several years ago,
I saw a movie that made a lasting memory for me.
Perhaps you yourself saw it,
It was called “The Untouchables”.
And it was filmed here in Chicago.
And it was, the main character was Eliot Ness.
Eliot Ness had come to clean up the crime,
Particularly the crime of the mob here in Chicago
And across the country.
And he worked hard at doing so.
And in his life experience,
He experienced so many dark moments.
He saw the cruelty of humanity,
The suffering of humanity.
As humanity – people inflicting harm,
People inflicting hurt, people inflicting murder.
For what end?
And his life’s goal was to rid the country.
Towards the end of the movie, he looks into the camera,
And reflecting on his own life
And the experiences of darkness that he had,
He said these most profound words.
He said, “I have become what I have beheld.”
And he didn’t like it.
He meant that all of that he had seen and experienced
Created in him something that he simply did not like.
Darkness and anger and a sense of lack of forgiveness.
Something to think about as we’re influenced
And as we experience the dark moments of life.
And now we celebrate this great Feast Day
Of the Body and Blood of Christ.
And we are to become what we behold.
We are to become the very Body
And Blood of Christ in the world.
We are to become the Disciples of the Lord
As we gather, as we pray, as we listen to the Word,
As we act as Disciples in the world
That has been given to us as co-creators
To make a difference,
Has received the Body and Blood of Christ.
We are to become what we behold in life.
To be Disciples, the arms, the legs, the ears,
The eyes of Christ in the world,
To enhance and to make a difference.
And so as we gather this day celebrating Eucharist
With grateful hearts, Eucharist which simply means:
Gratitude and thanksgiving.
We’re grateful for the many gifts that God has given
And bringing into our lives.
We’re grateful for the ways in which we’re nourished.
And then we accept the challenge to go out
And to bring the very Body and Blood of Christ
As Disciples into the world,
To be agents of transformation, to make a difference.
Let us now profess what it is that we believe:
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of Heaven and Earth,
Of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
The only begotten Son of God,
Born of the Father before all ages,
God from God, Light from Light,
True God from True God,
Begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation,
He came down from Heaven and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate
Of the Virgin Mary and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered death and was buried
And rose again on the third day
In fulfillment of the Scriptures.
He ascended into Heaven
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
And of his Kingdom he will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life,
Who proceeds from the Father and Son,
Who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
Who is spoken through the Prophets.
I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look forward to the Resurrection of the Dead
And the life of the world to come.
Amen.
We take this opportunity now as we place before God
Our own hopes, our dreams and our prayers
For one another and for the world in which we live.
Our response will be, “Lord, hear our prayer.”
For our Holy Father,
All who lead and guide us in our Faith,
May their words and actions
Help us to live as the one Body of Christ.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For peace in our world and for those serving our country,
May they remain safe
And return home to their families and friends.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For the youth and benefactors
Of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls,
May they embrace the beauty of God’s creation
During these summer months.
For this we pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
And pray always, the prayer of the Angels in Heaven,
That there might be peace on earth, goodwill towards all.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
Gracious and loving God,
We trust and know that you hear our prayers.
And through the reception of the Eucharist today,
Give us the strength, the grace, the wisdom and the courage
To truly be your Disciples in this world of ours.
This we pray through Christ our Lord.
-Amen.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ (Piano music continues) ∫
Pray, my friends, my sisters, my brothers, that this our
Sacrifice may be acceptable to God the Father Almighty.
-May the Lord accept the Sacrifice at your hands,
For the praise and glory of his name,
For our good and the good of all his Holy Church.
Grant your Church, O Lord, we pray,
The gifts of unity and peace whose signs are to be seen
In mystery in the offering that we here present to you.
Through Christ our Lord.
-Amen.
The Lord is with you.
-And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
-We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
-It is right and just.
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
Always and everywhere to give you thanks.
Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and eternal God,
Through Christ our Lord.
For at the Last Supper with his Apostles,
Establishing for ages to come
The saving memorial of the Cross,
He offered himself to you as the unblemished Lamb.
The acceptable gift of perfect praise.
Nourishing your faithful by this Sacred Mystery,
You make them holy so that the human race
Bound by one world may be enlightened
By one Faith and united by one bond of charity.
And so we approach the Table of this wonderful Sacrament
So that bathed in the sweetness of your grace,
We may pass over to the heavenly realities here foreshadowed.
Therefore, all creatures of Heaven and Earth sing a new song
In adoration, and we with all the hosts of Angels cry out,
And without end we acclaim:
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of Hosts. ∫
∫ Heaven and Earth are full of your glory. ∫
∫ Hosanna in the highest. ∫
∫ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. ∫
∫ Hosanna in the highest. ∫
You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
Make holy therefore these gifts, we pray,
By sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfalls
So that they become for us
The Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time that he was betrayed
And entered willingly into his Passion,
He took Bread and giving thanks, he broke it.
He gave it to his Disciples saying, “Take this, all of you,
And eat of it, for this is my Body
Which will be given up for you.”
In a similar way when the Supper was ended, he took the Chalice
And once more giving thanks.
He gave it to his Disciples saying, “Take this, all of you,
And drink from it, for this is the Chalice of my Blood,
The Blood of the new and the eternal Covenant,
Which will be poured for you and for many
For the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in memory of me.”
The Mystery of Faith.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, ∫
∫ we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again. ∫
Therefore, as we celebrate
The memorial of his death and his Resurrection,
We offer to you, Lord,
The Bread of Life and the Chalice of Salvation.
Giving thanks that you’ve held us worthy
To be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray that partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ
We may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church spread throughout the world
And bring her to the fullness of charity.
Together with Leo our Pope, Blasé… our Bishop,
And with all your faith-filled people.
Remember also our sisters and our brothers
Who have fallen asleep in the hope of the Resurrection
And all of those who have died in your mercy.
Welcome them into the light of your presence.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
That with the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God,
With her blessed spouse Joseph,
With the Blessed Apostles and the Martyrs,
With all the Saints that have pleased you throughout the ages,
That we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life
And may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
For it is through him, with him, in him,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
That all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Amen, Amen, Amen. ∫
And gathered with his Disciples, with his friends,
Jesus taught them and teaches us how to pray:
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,
On Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil
And graciously grant peace in our day,
That by the help of your mercy, we may be freed from sin
And safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope
In the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
-For the Kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
Now and forever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to his Apostles,
“Peace I leave you.”
It is my peace that I give to you.
Look not on our sins,
But on the Faith of your Church, and graciously grant her
Peace and unity in accordance with your will,
Who lives and reigns forever and ever.
-Amen.
The peace of the Risen Lord be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
Let’s take this opportunity to share
The Lord’s peace now with one another.
For those of you who are at home celebrating
This Eucharist with us here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls,
We always pray that you might receive
God’s gracious blessings in life and Christ’s peace.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ you take away the sins of the world, ∫
∫ have mercy on us. ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ you take away the sins of the world, ∫
∫ have mercy on us. ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ you take away the sins of the world, ∫
∫ grant us peace. ∫
My friends, behold Jesus, the Lamb of God
Who takes away the sins of the world,
The Bread of Life that comes down from Heaven.
Corpus Christi,
Blessed are those invited to the Supper of the Lamb.
-Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
But only say the word and my Soul shall be healed.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
For those of you at home, please turn to page six
In your TV Mass guide and join in singing
Our Communion song, ‘We Shall Rise Again.’
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Come to me, all you weary, ∫
∫ with your burdens and pain, ∫
∫ take my yoke on your shoulders and learn from me. ∫
∫ I am gentle and humble, ∫
∫ and your Soul will find rest, ∫
∫ for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. ∫
∫ we shall rise again on the last day, ∫
∫ with the faithful rich and poor. ∫
∫ coming to the house of Lord Jesus, ∫
∫ we will find an open door there, ∫
∫ we will find an open door. ∫
I invite you to turn to page six of the TV Mass guide,
And please pray with me the prayer that we have
Here for the children at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
Our Lady of Mercy, we pray that you will guide,
Protect and bless all boys and girls
Who this day have a home called Mercy.
May they find the Father’s mercy as we offer them our hearts.
In the name of your Son, Jesus Christ,
May they see God’s mercy in action
Through our love, prayers and sacrifices.
And we continue our prayer.
Grant, O Lord, we pray that we may delight
For all eternity in that share in your own divine life,
Which is foreshadowed in the present age
By our reception of your precious Body and Blood,
Who lives and reigns forever and ever.
Amen.
And to all of you, I want to thank you once again
For the ways in which you pray for and you support
This mission of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
We are deeply, deeply grateful to you
In all that you do to make this ministry a reality,
Helping and bringing hope and healing
To so many children and families.
Please know that you’re in my prayer,
As now we offer the final blessing.
The Lord is with you.
-And with your spirit.
May the many blessings of Almighty God;
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
Come upon all of you,
Your own family members and friends,
And remain with you forever.
-Amen.
Our Mass has ended. Go in peace.
-Thanks be to God.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Word of God, come down on Earth, ∫
∫ living rain from Heaven descending, ∫
∫ touch our hearts and bring to birth ∫
∫ Faith and hope and love unending… ∫
My friends, I just want to thank you for the ways

By the generosity of the viewers
Of Sunday Mass at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago.
Good morning and welcome

Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ.
My name is Dan Riley.
I am joined by Tom McNamara and Ian McBride,
And our Celebrant is Father Scott Donahue,
President of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
∫ Shepherd of souls, refresh and bless ∫
∫ your chosen pilgrim flock ∫
∫ with manna in the wilderness, ∫
∫ with water from the rock. ∫
∫ we would not live by bread alone, ∫
∫ but by your word of grace, ∫
∫ in strength of which we travel on ∫
∫ to our abiding place. ∫
We gather together around the Lord’s Table
To celebrate this wonderful Feast Day of Corpus Christi,
The Body and Blood of Christ,
As we offer our prayer together in the name of the Father
And of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
-Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
And the love of God and the Communion of the Holy Spirit
Be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
And as we gather, we pause for just a moment.
We acknowledge our dependency upon God and all things,
And we seek the Lord’s merciful and loving forgiveness.
Lord Jesus, we believe that you are the Way
That leads us to the Father.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
We believe your word, your truth,
Reveals God’s love for each of us.
Christ, have mercy.
-Christ, have mercy.
And we believe through your life and your death
And Resurrection you have promised us a new life in you.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
May almighty God have mercy on us,
Forgive us of our sin,
And bring us to life everlasting.
-Amen.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Glory to God in the highest, ∫
∫ and on earth peace to people of good will. ∫
∫ Glory to God in the highest, ∫
∫ and on earth peace to people of good will. ∫
∫ (Piano music) ∫
