Good morning and welcome
To Sunday Mass at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
My name is Dan Riley.
I am joined by Tom McNamara and Ian McBride
And our Celebrant is Father Scott Donahue,
President of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
∫ Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine. ∫
∫ O, what a foretaste of glory divine. ∫
∫ Heirs of Salvation, children of God, ∫
∫ Born of one Spirit, washed in His Blood. ∫
∫ This is my story, this is my song, ∫
∫ Praising my Savior all the day long. ∫
∫ This is my story, this is my song, ∫
∫ Praising my Savior all the day long. ∫
We gather this day around the Table of the Lord together
To celebrate Eucharist.
As we celebrate the great Feast Day of the Blessed Trinity,
We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Trinity
In the name of the Father,
And of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
-Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God
And the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
My friends, as we gather we simply pause for a moment.
We acknowledge the great gifts that God brings into our lives.
We also acknowledge that we’re dependent
Upon God in all things.
God’s mercy, God’s love, and certainly God’s forgiveness.
Lord Jesus, we believe that you are the way
That leads us to the Father.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
We believe that your Word, your truth,
Reveals your love for us.
Christ, have mercy.
-Christ, have mercy.
And we believe that through your own life
And your death and Resurrection,
You have promised us a new life in you.
Lord, have mercy.
-Lord, have mercy.
May almighty God have mercy on us,
Forgive us of our sin,
And bring us to life everlasting.
-Amen.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Glory to God in the highest, ∫
∫ And on earth peace to people of good will. ∫
∫ Glory to God in the highest, ∫
∫ And on earth peace to people of good will. ∫
My friends, let us pray.
God our Father, who by sending into the world
The Word of truth and the Spirit of Sanctification,
Made known to the human race your wondrous mystery,
Now grant us, we pray, that in professing the true Faith,
We may acknowledge the Trinity of eternal glory
And adore your unity, powerful in majesty.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever.
-Amen.
A reading from the Book of Exodus.
Early in the morning,
Moses went up to Mount Sinai as the Lord had commanded him,
Taking along the two stone tablets.
Having come down in a cloud,
The Lord stood with Moses there and proclaimed his name, “Lord.”
Thus the Lord passed before him and cried out,
“The Lord, the Lord, a merciful and gracious God,
Slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity.”
Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship.
Then he said, “If I find favor with you, O Lord,
Do come along in our company.
This is indeed a stiff-necked people,
Yet pardon our wickedness and sin and receive us as your own.”
The Word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ To you glory and praise forevermore. ∫
∫ To you glory and praise forevermore. ∫
∫ You are blessed, Lord God, of our Fathers. ∫
∫ Blessed be your glorious Holy Name, ∫
∫ To you glory and praise forevermore. ∫
A reading from the second letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.
Brothers and sisters, rejoice.
Mend your ways, encourage one another,
Agree with one another, live in peace,
And the God of love and peace will be with you.
Greet one another with a Holy Kiss.
All the Holy Ones greet you.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God,
And the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit
Will be with all of you.
The Word of the Lord.
-Thanks be to God.
∫ (Piano music) ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
∫ Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; ∫
∫ To God who is, who was, and who is to come. ∫
∫ Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. ∫
The Lord be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
Ours is a reading taken from the Holy Gospel
According to St. John.
-Glory to you, O Lord.
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
So that everyone who believes in Him might not perish,
But might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world
To condemn the world,
But that the world might be saved through Him.
Whoever believes in Him will not be condemned,
But whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
Because he has not believed
In the name of the only Son of God.
The Gospel of the Lord.
-Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
So today we gather to celebrate the wonderful
Feast Day of the Blessed Trinity.
I remember being in grade school
And trying to understand what the Trinity,
How can we have three persons in this one God?
And the best answer from the Sisters
And from others that I ever heard is that it is a mystery.
And indeed they’re right.
It is a mystery.
Three persons – one God,
And a God in so many ways who is ineffable.
The word ineffable meaning:
We simply can’t begin to comprehend the magnificence
And the love of God in our lives.
And so we try.
And one of the great Catechists over the ages,
One of the great teachers,
One of the great Saints of our Church
Taught about the Trinity in this way.
A Saint that we’re also familiar with, St. Patrick.
Patrick, when he was teaching his people,
Those who would listen,
Those would be his Disciples and followers
And those who would join him in the mission of the Church.
And they said, “Tell us about this Trinity.”
And Patrick, in his great wisdom, reached down
And he plucked a three-leaf clover.
And he said, “This is a good symbol
Of what the Trinity is all about.
It’s one three-leaf clover.
It has one stem.
It has three leaves.”
Think of the Trinity in this simple, catechetical term.
One God, three persons.
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
A way about thinking about the Trinity,
And there are so many ways.
Again, God is ineffable, unknowing, but we try.
We struggle with our own limitations.
But it’s what the Trinity does for us in our lives of Faith.
How God’s love is with us in every moment of our lives.
The Father, who is the Creator of all things,
Who created you and me and this magnificent world
That we live in.
God the Father, Creator of all things,
Who so loves the world that he sends his Son, Jesus,
The Word made flesh.
And Jesus comes to us as Teacher.
He comes to us as the Redeemer.
The one who brings Salvation and forgiveness to all of us.
And the love of the Father and the love of the Son,
They’re in this constant motion of love for one another,
And out of their love something good comes.
It’s called Spiration, and they generate the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit that’s given to us as a gift on Pentecost.
The Holy Spirit that is a great reminder to all of us
Of the teachings of the Lord and the love of God in our lives.
The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit that sanctifies your life and my life
So that we can be faithful Disciples.
And together now we profess what it is that we believe:
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell, and on the third day
He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into Heaven
And is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church,
The Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins,
The Resurrection of the Body, and life everlasting.
Amen.
Let’s take this opportunity now as we place our own needs,
Our prayers, our hopes and dreams
For one another and the world,
Into the very hands of God.
Our response to each prayer will be, “Lord, hear our prayer.”
For our Pope and all Clergy who spread the Gospel
Throughout the world,
May their teachings lead us
To the Holy Trinity of God the Father,
God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For nations divided by hatred, violence, and fear,
May the Spirit of truth lead them to harmony and peace.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For the boys and girls of Mercy Home,
May they find inspiration in Christ’s love
To continue their healing path.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
For those who have turned away from their Faith,
May the Spirit of God move in their hearts and minds,
Encouraging them along the ways of Discipleship.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray to and always the prayer of the Angels in Heaven,
That there might be peace on earth and good will towards all.
We pray to the Lord.
-Lord, hear our prayer.
Gracious and loving God, the giver of every good gift,
We trust and we know that you hear all of our prayers.
Give us the strength, the grace, the compassion, and the love
To be good Disciples in this world.
All this we pray through Christ, our Lord.
-Amen.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ [Piano music continues] ∫
Pray, my friends, my sisters, my brothers,
That this our Sacrifice may be acceptable
To God the Father Almighty.
-May the Lord accept the Sacrifice at your hands
For the praise and glory of his name,
For our good and the good of all his Holy Church.
Sanctified by the invocation of your name,
We pray, O, Lord our God,
That this offering of our service and by it make of us
An eternal offering to you always through Christ our Lord.
-Amen.
The Lord is with you.
-And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
-We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
-It is right and just.
It is truly right and just.
Our duty and our Salvation,
Always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and eternal God.
For with your only begotten Son and the Holy Spirit,
You are one God, one Lord, not in the unity of a single person,
But in a Trinity of one substance.
For what you have revealed to us of your glory,
We believe equally of your Son and that of the Holy Spirit,
So that in the confessing of the one true and eternal Godhead,
You might be adored in what is proper to each person,
Their unity in substance and the equality in their majesty.
For this, all are praised by the Angels and by the Archangels
With Cherubim too and the Seraphim
Who never cease to cry out each day.
As with one voice, they acclaim:
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ Holy, Holy, Holy, ∫
∫ Lord, God of Hosts. ∫
∫ Heaven and Earth are full of your glory. ∫
∫ Hosanna in the highest. ∫
∫ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. ∫
∫ Hosanna in the highest. ∫
You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all Holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
By sending down your Spirit upon them like the dew falls,
So that they become for us the Body and Blood
Of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
At the time that he was betrayed
And entered willingly into his Passion,
He took Bread and giving thanks, he broke it.
He gave it to his Disciples saying,
“Take this, all of you, and eat of it,
For this is my Body, which will be given up for you.”
In a similar way, when the Supper was ended,
He took the Chalice and once more giving thanks,
He gave it to his Disciples saying,
“Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
For this is the Chalice of my Blood,
The Blood of the new and the eternal Covenant,
Which will be poured out for you and for many
For the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.”
The Mystery of Faith.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, ∫
∫ We proclaim your death, O Lord, ∫
∫ Until you come again. ∫
Therefore, as we celebrate the Memorial
Of his death and his Resurrection,
We offer to you, Lord, the Bread of Life
And the Chalice of Salvation,
Giving thanks that you have held us worthy
To be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray that partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
We may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church spread throughout the world
And bring her to the fullness of Charity.
Together with Leo, our Pope, Blasé…, our Bishop,
And with all your faith-filled people.
Remember also our sisters and our brothers
Who have fallen asleep in the hope of the Resurrection
And all those who have died in your mercy.
Welcome them into the light of your presence.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
That with the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God,
With her blessed spouse, Joseph,
With the blessed Apostles and the Martyrs
And all the Saints that have pleased you
Throughout the ages.
That we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life
And may praise and give you glory
Through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him and with him and in him,
O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
All glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ Amen, Amen, Amen. ∫
You’ve heard me say it before,
But one of my favorite passages in the Scripture
Is when his Disciples, his friends, came up
And they said, “Lord, teach us how to pray.”
And he said, “when you pray, pray like this.”
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily Bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray,
From every evil and graciously grant peace in our day,
That by the help of your mercy
We may be freed from sin and safe from all distress
As we await the blessed hope
And the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
For the Kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
Now and forever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to his Apostles,
“Peace I leave you.
It is my peace that I give to you.”
Look not on our sins, but on the Faith of your Church.
And graciously grant her peace and unity
In accordance with your will, who lives and reigns
Forever and ever.
Amen.
The peace of the Risen Lord be with each of you.
-And with your spirit.
Take this opportunity to share the Lord’s peace.
And for those of you who are at home celebrating
This Eucharist with us here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls,
We pray that you receive God’s choicest blessings,
And the peace of Christ in your lives.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ you take away the sins of the world. ∫
∫ Have mercy on us. ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ you take away the sins of the world. ∫
∫ Have mercy on us. ∫
∫ Lamb of God, ∫
∫ you take away the sins of the world. ∫
∫ Grant us peace. ∫
And my friends, behold Jesus, the Lamb of God,
Who takes away the sins of the world,
The Bread of Life that comes down from Heaven.
Lest are those invited to the Supper of the Lamb.
-Lord, I’m not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
But only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
∫ [Piano music] ∫
For those of you at home, please turn to page six
In your TV Mass guide and join in singing
Our Communion song, ‘One Bread, One Body.’
∫ [Piano music] ∫
∫ One Bread, One Body, one Lord of all. ∫
∫ One Cup of Blessing which we bless, ∫
∫ And we though many throughout the earth. ∫
∫ We are one Body in this one Lord. ∫
∫ Gentile or Jew, ∫
∫ Servant or free, ∫
∫ Woman or man, no more. ∫
∫ One Bread, One Body, one Lord of all. ∫
∫ One Cup of Blessing which we bless, ∫
∫ And we though many throughout the earth. ∫
∫ We are one Body in this one Lord. ∫
∫ Grain for the fields, ∫
∫ Scattered and grown, ∫
∫ Gathered to one for all. ∫
∫ One Bread, One Body, one Lord of all. ∫
∫ One Cup of Blessing which we bless, ∫
∫ And we though many throughout the earth. ∫
∫ We are one Body in this one Lord. ∫
And so we pray:
Grant, O Lord, that we might delight for all eternity
In the share of your own divine life,
Which is foreshadowed in this present age
By our reception of your precious Body and Blood,
Who lives and reigns forever and ever.
-Amen.
I want to thank all of you for joining us in this celebration
Of the Eucharist on this wonderful Feast Day.
I ask that you continue to offer your prayers
For the children here at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls,
And for all of my wonderful co-workers
Who make this ministry really a possibility
And life-changing in the lives of so many.
And so we pray:
Grant, O Lord, that we may delight for all eternity
In that share in your divine life,
Which is foreshadowed in this present age
By our reception of your precious Body and Blood,
Who lives and reigns forever and ever.
-Amen.
The Lord is with you.
And with your spirit.
May Almighty God bless you all;
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
-Amen.
Our Mass has ended.
Go in peace.
-Thanks be to God.

The Lord is with you.
And with your spirit.
May Almighty God bless you all;

The following presentation is made possible
By the generosity of the viewers
Of Sunday Mass at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago.
