Archangel Corner: Sabina’s Giving Story

Archangel Corner: Sabina’s Giving Story

Sabina Kane’s memory of Mercy Home spans all the way back to the 1940s. At the time, she was a newlywed, visiting her parents when she spotted a piece of mail that caught her eye. While it may have been that mailing that first introduced her to our Home—it was a lighthearted comic strip we had put out years ago—the sense of familial love she discovered stayed with her for years.

Back then, Sabina and her husband were raising a young family of 8 children. With finances tight, they couldn’t give charitably as they wished until decades later. So when the couple felt they were in a position to share their blessings, Sabina immediately thought of Mercy Home.

“I always wanted to help,” she remembered. “Having children myself, I imagined what it would be like for them to not have a home—to not have that loving place that would help them grow.”

While it may have been that mailing that first introduced her to our Home…that sense of familial love she discovered stayed with her for years.

So, she and her husband began giving faithfully to support the boys and girls of Mercy Home. Even now, years later, at 101 years old, Sabina still gives as she is able. Her dedicated support, like yours, ensures that children in need receive more than shelter from the storm, but also the love and guidance of a real family.

“I appreciate what Mercy Home does. They have very kind and helpful people who do not give up on the children,” she said. Sabina shared that there have been many times in her life that others have rushed to her aid. And she is thankful to God for every helping hand she’s received—and inspired to pay each kindness forward.

Compassion seems to come naturally to Sabina. With 8 children, 16 grandkids, and a 25-year nursing career, she has built a life out of caring for others. Like you, and our entire Archangel family, Sabina’s loyal friendship and generous support make a lifesaving difference for every child in our care. It’s with thanks to Sabina, and good folks like you, that Mercy Home can work to transform lives of suffering into those of hope and promise.
